|  Artwork |
• Artwork will be accepted in the formats listed above.
• Press Enterprise recommends that art provided is no larger
than 10-15% of size art is placed on page.
• Artwork that is rotated should also be done in the art program
it is created. Art that is placed and rotated in any program can cause
output problems that may lead to increased production time that can
directly affect printing schedules.

|  Setting Up Your Document |
• All pages that make up a job should be contained in one document.
• Link all graphics and photo to the job.
• All colors should be converted to CMYK and marked for process
separation,
Unless they are to be run as a separate spot color.
• Build your document the same size as the trim dimensions. Do
not exceed the image size dimensions given by the Customer Service Representative.
• If your job includes pages that bleed, the bleed must exceed
your document size by at least 1/4" on three sides; top, bottom,
and side opposite the fold. Do not bleed on the fold side of the
document.
• Special requirements for PDFs with bleeds; please review PDF
instructions.
|
| Photos |
• All continuous tone photos should be scanned to size at 150
dpi.
• Black and white photos should be in Grayscale mode.
• Color photos should be set in CMYK mode. *Be sure Photoshop
preference are correct before converting from RGB.
(Color photos left in RGB mode will reproduce in black and white
or will be automatically converted by the system to CMYK using generic
settings. To correct this will create additional cost to your job).
• Save photos as Tiff or EPS files.
(If you save as an EPS file in Photoshop, encoding should be set
to binary or ASCII, not JPEG)
TIFF - (Tagged Image Format File) - This is the safest way to save
a photo for
reproduction in a document. This Format is widely accepted by most
desktop publishing programs.
EPS - (Encapsulated Postscript File) - This format is used when
added functions are not available in the document application. For
example: a path around an object to create a silhouette. This format
is also widely accepted by most programs.
*Please reference: Checks and Procedures for Process Color.
|
| Fonts |
All fonts must be included with your job. This ensures that your text
will flow correctly. Fonts can come in two types, Truetype and Postscript.
When sending fonts please make sure that all parts to the fonts are
included.
TRUETYPE - These fonts consist of one part which is used
on the screen as well as
being able to download to the printer. Keep in mind, Truetype fonts
do not always print the same on every printer.
POSTSCRIPT - These fonts consist of two parts. One part is
a screen font, the other a printer font. Be sure to include both parts
of the font when sending your disk.
We can accept both Truetype and Postscript fonts used in the same
document, however please provide only one version of a font with the
same name. For example ,if you are using Times provide either the Postscript
Version or the Truetype version (which ever you are using in your document)
not both.
|
| Embedding Graphics |
It is not recommended that graphics be embedded into the documents.
This creates large document files which are often difficult to print
and may add additional cost to your job. Linking files is the safest
way to include graphics.
|
| Laser Proofs |
All jobs must be accompanied by updated laser proofs. If your
job is running in color, please provide a composite proof along with
color separations.
|

| How To Prepare A
Disk For Film Output |
Following is a list of items to include if you prepare a job to print
from disk.
• A copy of the original document.
• All photos and graphics used in the document.
• All fonts used in the document.
There are several ways to collect this information:
• Flightcheck
Press Enterprise uses Flightcheck to check and copy all documents
for output. It will collect a copy of the original document, all photos,
graphics fonts.
• QuarkXPress
Quark will allow you to collect a copy of your original document,
all photos and graphics. Unless using Quark 5, it does not collect fonts.
lt will also generate a report file that will list information, including
fonts, used in your document.
Under the File Menu
Collect for Output
Select a destination folder or create a new one
• Pagemaker
Pagemaker works in a similar fashion to Quark. It will collect a
copy of your original document and all photos and graphics. It will
not collect fonts.
Under the File Menu

Save for Remote Printing

and Procedures For Process Color |

Adobe Photoshop
1. Set up Photoshop preferences to the specs listed below. These preferences
should be set up before any photo is changed from RGB to CMYK. Changes
will only take place on photos when you convert from RGB to CMYK.
Under File/Preferences:
Printing Inks should be set like the example below:
Under File/Preferences:
Separation Set-Up should be set at the following:

2. Now that your preferences are set, make sure that the
photo has the proper resolution for our presses. This is done using
the IMAGE SIZE option. (Image/Image Size). You need 1.5 times the line
screen ruling as long as the picture is not going to be enlarged more
than 110%. (Refer to your Commercial Printing Division Additional Charges
sheet for images that will be enlarged more that 110%.)

When changing resolution be sure that File Size is NOT
checked. If it is this will reduce the size (width and height) of your
photo.
Sample resolutions: |
85 line newsprint |
Photo at size |
resolution=127 pixels/inch |
|
|
Photo not at size |
resolution=170 pixels/inch |
|
|
|
|
|
100 line newsprint |
Photo at size |
resolution=150 pixels/inch |
|
|
Photo not at size |
resolution=200 pixels/inch |
3. Last, check to make sure that the picture is in CMYK Mode. If we
output a picture in RGB, all that you will get is a black negative (no
cyan, magenta or yellow). This will lead to extra time and/or added
cost to your job for conversion of photo to CMYK.
Note: The above examples were set in Adobe Photoshop 4.0. If you
are working in a different version and have any questions, contact your
Customer Service Representative.

| Sending Files To The Press
Enterprise FTP Server |
In order to send your files to our FTP server, you will
need two things:
- An Internet connection
- An FTP client.
If you do not have an FTP client, you may download "Freeware"
versions off Internet sites like www.download.com
or www.cnet.com.
When sending your files, enter the info given to you by your Commercial
Printing Represnetaitve. The server is "Case Sinsitive", whic
means if you have caps lock on you will get an invalid username/password
error. Also send your files in "binary" mode. PC files transferred
any other way will not be usable by our prepress department. It is also
a good idea to "stuff" or "zip" your files into a
compressed archive format. This iwll make the files smaller and protect
them from showing up unrecognizable. Also, be sure that "pasc"
or passive mode is turned off.
If you are using a Macintosh with system software 8.0 or later, you do
not need an FTP client. You can access our server from the "Chooser"
by using "AppleShare". Click on "AppleShare" and in
the lower right- hand corner you will see a box that says "server
ip address". Enter the address below into the box and you will be
asked for a username and password. Use the ones provided by your CSR Representative.
You should then see your folder. Select it and it will mount on your desktop
like an external volume. Just copy your files into the volume.
If you are new to the process, please try is ASAP...
Use the information below to access our FTP server. Please do not give
out thi infor to unauthorized personnel.
